Music through Animatronics
The music on the attraction will showcase several different musical styles that have been born from New Orleans and those that have become part of the culture today. Many of the brand-new Audio-Animatronics figures will bring the Mardi Gras vibe of whimsical New Orleans.
Take this new rendering of Prince Naveen’s brother, Ralphie, for example. It’s a scene you commonly see in New Orleans: the joie de vivre influencing his every movement as he jams to the beat of his songful soul. Or this band of friendly critters playing joyful Zydeco-style music.
Zydeco-style music is a vibrant and energetic genre that originated in southwest Louisiana, particularly among the Creole communities. It is a fusion of various musical traditions, including African, French, Caribbean, and Afro-Caribbean influences. Zydeco is characterized by its lively rhythms, infectious accordion melodies, and spirited dance beats.
Local Voices
Disney Imagineers have prioritized to respectfully represent the city’s vibrant and beautiful culture throughout the attraction. Therefore, they have met with many prominent figures around New Orleans.
Founder Leah Chase’s restaurant, Dooky Chase’s Restaurant, was an inspiration for Princess Tiana. She remains very close to the Disney Imagineering family. Stella Chase Reese, Leah’s daughter, shared that “if we have children and grown people coming here because of Tiana, they’re not coming here just because of Tiana’s restaurant and the food, it’s the value, it’s what she meant to them. Dream big and you can make it happen.”
Imagineers reached out to New Orleans artist, Sharika Mahdi, commissioned to paint four pieces. They served as an aid to the creative process from the new attraction. Her beautiful paintings serve as a compilation of Tiana’s story and emphasizes the importance of family, food and of course, music.
Tiana’s story has helped foster a sense of pride and resilience in New Orleans and has brought attention to its rich cultural heritage. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort next year. Make sure to share this article with a Tiana fan!
