Sad news for Fantasmic! (and no it has nothing to do with the fire)

We have a bit of sad news for the Fantasmic! show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The premise of the show is that Mickey is transported into a dream where he dances along with music, lighting effects, and pyrotechnics. Various characters and scenes from popular Disney movies are part of the sequence as well.

The show takes a bad turn as Mickey is asked to enter the darker realms of his imagination. Maleficent turns out to be the mastermind behind the trap as she wishes to take over Mickey’s dream. Various villains are part of this sequence as he fights the evil dragon.

This is a fan-favorite show since 1998 when it debuted. It is also the longest running nighttime show in the four main theme parks. See why we love it so much in this post.

Usually, Fantasmic! runs twice each night during busy seasons and once a night during slower seasons. This is so more people can view the show. Even though the theater is massive, having two shows during busier periods is very helpful.

Now that Memorial Day is over, Fantasmic! is now down to one show per night through the summer. One would think it would be opposite. In previous years, summer is usually a very busy time. However, this summer is predicted to be the opposite.

A slow summer?

Disney released a slew of discounts for summer – including a room discount, summer ticket offer, and Annual Pass and Florida resident discounts. They also opened up “free” park passes for Annual Passholders for the entire month of June at Epcot and Animal Kingdom.

It seems Disney will have a bit of trouble filling its parks and rooms, and now the fact that Fantasmic! is down to one showtime a night is even more indicative of a slow summer.

Do you have summer vacation plans at Disney World? Are you bummed that there will only be one nightly showing of Fantasmic! or are you hopeful this means lower crowds? Let us know in the comments below.
