Are you planning to attend one or maybe both of the holiday parties at Walt Disney World this year? If so, you might want to check out this information.
Disney World Special Events
Even though summer has only just begun, Disney is already looking towards the upcoming holiday season. They have already released plans for both Halloween and Christmas. Beginning in August, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party will begin. Then, in November we will have Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Both special events will take place at the Magic Kingdom.
Disney also announced that a brand new event, Disney Jollywood Nights, will be held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to celebrate the holiday season. You can read more about the exciting details for this event HERE.
Virtual Queues
Love them or hate them, virtual queues are now pretty common at Walt Disney World. Disney began using virtual queues for Rise of the Resistance. It was a learning curve for both Disney and Disney Guests as kinks were worked out, but now they are relatively easy to use. Since then, Disney has also used virtual queues for rides like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Cosmic Rewind along with special characters like Santa.
Virtual queues will be used for both Tron: Lightcycle Run during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and also for Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Jollywood Nights.
One unique thing about this year at special events this year is that virtual queues will be used. Virtual queues are currently being used for Tron Lightcycle Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
What To Know
An opportunity to request to join the virtual queue will be available at 6:00 PM for Guests attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Guests will need to use the My Disney Experience app to enter this attraction. A standby queue for this attraction will not be available during the event. Each Guest can request to enter this virtual queue no more than once per event.
We suspect the same time will also be in place for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney Jollywood Nights as well. However, more details will be given at a later date.
What do you think of the use of virtual queues during the special events this year? Do you like this system or do you struggle with it? Let us know in the comments below or share this post with a friend.

I guess I don’t understand. Could somebody explain? Is a virtual queue similar to what fast pass was, you get a time and then go to the ride at that time? Is it basically same as Genie+ and ILL except Genie+ and ILL are paid-for services and virtual queue is limited to a very few rides? Why not have virtual queues for all rides? Isn’t that what essentially what fastpass was except fastpass was unlimited? It’s so confusing. I wish they’d go back to the old system.
