Big New Frozen 3 Update: Who’s IN and Who’s OUT

Disney is moving toward making Frozen 3 a reality. See who is signing on for the project and who is signing off.

During the First Quarter Earnings Call earlier this year, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced 3 huge sequels to beloved films. Iger explained that this move is an example of how the company is “leaning into our unrivaled brand franchise.”

One of the franchises receiving a sequel is Frozen. The first film took the world by storm and many thought the second was even better than the original. However, as it is with sequel announcements, many fans who loved what has already transpired in the worlds of their favorite characters are skeptical. Will Disney be able to create a sequel that lives up to the first two?

The first step to a great sequel is ensuring that the talent from previous films returns to bring the characters to life once more. This provides cohesion for the audience. For instance, fans were displeased to find that two of Inside Out‘s voice actors have announced they are not returning for the sequel.

We have a list of who has signed on for the third Frozen movie so far. We also know that one KEY person is shaking things up and moving on.

Who is IN

Some things never change, and we do know that the Frozen 3 storyline will certainly include Elsa. After all, what would a Frozen movie be without the Ice Queen herself? Vocal powerhouse Idina Menzel will once again lend her voice to the character.

We’re also holding on tight to the lovely Kristen Bell is reprising her role. She will be voicing Elsa’s darling sister Anna, Queen of Arendelle.

Moreover, some parts are worth melting for, and we are happy to announce that comedian Josh Gad has decided to melt our hearts once again as the beloved Olaf character. He will be back for the third film.

Finally, we know that Jonathan Groff isn’t going to be completely lost in the woods for the sequel. He will once again play Kristoff, the character who eventually became Anna’s love interest after her unfortunate and short-lived relationship with Prince Hans.

These 4 Disney Legends will certainly deliver stellar performances. If only the storyline can match the talent. While little is known about the storyline, we do have information about who is NOT returning in the same capacity.

Who is OUT: A New Direction

Great stories can’t come to life without superb direction. Unfortunately, Frozen and Frozen 2 co-director Jennifer Lee has confirmed that she will not return to direct Frozen 3. She worked on the first two movies alongside Chris Buck. However, she made the announcement that she will not be directing the third film at the Annecy Animation Festival.

However, she is not leaving the franchise entirely. She has confirmed that will remain involved with the creative progress in an advisory role. Her voice could still serve as guidance.

In fact, Lee made a statement regarding the new film. While specific details surrounding the film are under wraps, she did say, “All our stories are driven by the artists in the studio. Where we’re going with Frozen did not come from me. It came from an incredible person. That’s a new piece, I’ve told no one. And I’ve been blown away by it.”

Will audiences be blown away too? Only time will tell. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2025.
