Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
in June of 2020, Disney announced that a major reimagining of Splash Mountain would happen. This attraction, based on the controversial 1946 film Song Of the South, has been a fan favorite since it debuted in 1989.
The attraction will begin where the film leaves off with the final kiss. We’ll join Princess Tiana and her trumpet playing alligator friend Louis “on a musical adventure.”
The enchantment of the bayou will illuminate with a celebration during Mardi Gras season hosted by Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. In addition, Mama Odie will reprise her role as the catalyst to that magic.
As depicted in this newly released rendering, Mama Odie jokes with guests along their journey after a special display of her magic. The two-hundred-year-old Bayou Fairy Godmother, with her eccentric belongings and “seeing eye snake,” Juju, is comically eccentric, yet wise and all-knowing, throughout the adventure. Milestone
Right now, the only timeline we have for the ride’s opening is sometime in late 2024. However, Disney is really moving as fast as they can. We noticed quite a bit of construction immediately after the closure of the ride in January 2023.
Construction crews added scaffolding in the area that will be the water tower for the attraction. It was one of the many changes we noticed in the concept art when it was released last year.
And now, that tower tower is installed! Overnight, crews installed the Tiana’s Foods water tower, and it is visible today, June 27.
The blue skies and sunshine of Frontierland at Walt Disney World are looking a bit more regal this morning! Overnight, Disney Imagineers installed the tiara-topped water tower that will be the centerpiece of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure when the attraction opens in 2024.
We love a good tiara moment!
