When it comes to film premieres, Disney is known to pull out a spectacular red-carpet affair. However, tonight’s premiere will look very different than before. Read on to learn what and how this came to be with such short notice!
Disney Film Premieres
Disney has a long history of hosting film premieres at Disneyland. Particularly for movies closely tied to the Disney brand or feature characters from the Disney universe. These premieres allow celebrities, filmmakers, and fans to come together and celebrate the release of a highly anticipated film.
Premieres at Disneyland often take place at the iconic El Capitan Theatre. It is located in Hollywood, California. The theater is owned by Disney and is known for hosting many Disney film premieres.
However, it’s noteworthy that premieres can occur at other Disneyland Resort venues. They have occurred at Disney California Adventure Park or even in specially designed areas. These premieres are typically invitation-only events. They tend to include red-carpet arrivals and film screenings and often feature appearances by the cast and crew.
One example would be the premiere of The Jungle Cruise film, which features stars Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies were also premiered and featured at Disneyland Park.
Haunted Mansion World Preimiere and SAG-AFTRA Strike
Unsurprisingly, fans were excited to attend the world premiere of the upcoming Haunted Mansion film. The film hits theatres nationwide on July 28, 2023. The film features Tiffany Haddish, Danny Devito, Rosario Dawson, Lakeith Standfield, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Hasan Minaj. They were to attend Disneyland Park on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Presently at Disneyland Park in front of the Haunted Mansion attraction, a red carpet donned with feature film posters has been set up for the world premiere. Check-in for the Red Carpet was to begin at 4:00 pm at the Disneyland Resort.
The film’s World Premiere will be held in the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure Park at 7:00 p.m., following the Red Carpet event.
However, as of July 14, 2023, the Hollywood actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actor’s Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio), went on strike. It is over an ongoing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. It has coincided with a Writers Guild of America strike as part of broader Hollywood labor disputes.
As a result, the SAG AFTRA strike affects this film’s premiere at Disneyland Park. Disney announced that the premiere will now only be a fan event for the movie.
What are your thoughts about the world premiere of The Haunted Mansion film’s becoming a fan-only event due to the SAG AFTRA strike? Please share this article with a fan of feature films and movie premieres!
