Construction Begins for a New Experience at the Magic Kingdom

We have our first look at the changes taking place at the Magic Kingdom.

New Meet and Greet

Disney’s Encanto has fans in love with the Madrigal family. We have seen Mirabel at Disneyland and California Adventure, in the Adventure Friends Cavalcade, and Epcot training.

This past spring, Disney announced that this fall, Mirabel from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit film Encanto will greet guests in Fairytale Garden surrounded by whimsical décor inspired by La Familia Madrigal.

The space where Merida previously met guests is being redesigned for Mirabel. This means Merida left her home next to Cinderella Castle. You can now meet her over the Liberty Square gazebo.

Work Begins

Just a few weeks ago, Disney filed a permit to begin work. The permit cites “General Construction” without details listed. And Disney is not wasting much time in getting ready!

A giant crane can be seen behind the scrim that surrounds the worksite. Unless they add more scrim later, it doesn’t look like the actual structural building will see much of a change.

In addition, Disney removed the canopy that covered the area. From our viewpoint, that is the only major change we can see. The banners are still hanging from the wall.

When will she make her debut?

Though Disney did not provide a timeline other than later this year, we are hopeful this space will be transformed by October. August and September are historically slow periods, but crowds really pick up in October.

This meet and greet would draw a huge line and would help disperse park crowds even more. Though Magic Kingdom has dozens of attractions (and that includes characters), it can still have some of the longest lines in Disney World.
