Find out why a judge finds both sides of this battle unreasonable and what this may mean for the legal dispute.
Legal Dispute
The past year has been turbulent between the state of Florida and The Walt Disney Company. It all started when Florida passed the Parental Rights in Education Law in 2022. The Walt Disney Company originally remained quiet surrounding this bill despite pleas from employees and fans for them to take an official stance.
Tension built until then-CEO Bob Chapek denounced the bill, but many believed it was too little, too late. The tension between the company and the state continued to worsen as state Republicans repealed the Reedy Creek Improvement Act of 1967. This brought big operational changes to how Walt Disney World operates.
Bob Iger stated that although The Walt Disney Company did not handle the response to the Parental Rights in Education Law in the best way, he does feel that DeSantis is punishing the Walt Disney Company for practicing free speech.
The Walt Disney Company filed a lawsuit against DeSantis in April. Over the past several weeks both sides have fired back and forth with DeSantis trying to receive immunity from this legal battle.
Judge Ruling
Now Judge Allen Winsor makes a bold statement in this case. Judge Winsor finds that both Governor Ron DeSantis and the Walt Disney Company are both begin unreasonable in providing a timeline for this trial.
In an earlier filing, Disney asked for a July 2024 court date. However, Desantis’ team wants to push the start of the trial to August 2025. Both sides presented a timeline to prepare for the trial.
At the end of July, Judge Winsor stated, “It is not clear that either proposal is reasonable under the circumstances.” The next step in this ongoing legal battle is a pending Motion to Dismiss briefing set for August 9, 2023.
This Motion to Dismiss must first be resolved before a litigation schedule may be formed by either side.
At the end of July, Judge Winsor stated, “It is not clear that either proposal is reasonable under the circumstances.”

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I would like to add, that because Desantis is doing a whole lot of bad for not only Disney but Florida as well. I personally believe he needs to be pushed out of office before he causes more damage. .

This is eventually going to hurt some of the citizens of Florida more then deSantis or Disney. They need to settle their differences, let Reddy Creek get back to doing what it is suppose to do. The new organization is harming Disney especially if they don't know what they are doing.

I don't think this case should be dragged out,as it would be harmful to Disney operations staying as it is & they should be allowed to move forward as they have been & not be putting a strain on Florida with thousands of jobs moving out & the thousands coming into Disneys expansion. The sooner the nonsense is ended the better for both Disney & Florida. DeSantis won't be in office anymore after this stunt anyway, his terms are up
