There’s a limited-time cookie offering in town. But, should you rush over to Disney to grab it?
Gideon’s Bakehouse
Gideon’s Bakehouse has become a Disney staple in just a few years of operation. For those who do not know Gideon’s Bakehouse, it is a bakery, frosted in curious antiquities from the Victorian era. The bakery delights guests with half-pound cookies and decadent cakes that are unlike anything you can find anywhere else.
If you visit Walt Disney World, you may want to stop by Disney Springs and head to Gideons for a delectable and decadent dessert or a cold brew that you will dream about later. Read this full review of Gideon’s Bakehouse for a tour of the everyday offerings. You can also read some AMAZING news about Gideon’s famous Cold Brew right here.
However, before you go, you should know that the bakery is so popular that often (but not always) the line spills point into the street and wraps around the building. If you are at Gideon’s during a busy time at Disney Springs, and you don’t see a line, it might be because it became so long that the staff moved it to a virtual queue. However, if you are either cunning or lucky, you can walk right in. You can read about getting Gideon’s with no wait here.
Featured Limited Edition Cookies
You should also know that each month, in addition to the standard permanent menu, Gideon’s Bakehouse offers a monthly featured limited edition cookie. For example, there have been unique coconut, butterscotch, and white chocolate creations, and more in recent months! Also, now and there will be additional special offerings for special occasions like holidays and Flavors of Florida.
Right now in August, Gideons is offering a cookie version of its wildly popular Peanut Butter Nitro Cold Brew. I know that I (Katie) am not alone when I say that the PB Nitro is my favorite iced coffee on the planet.
The August cookie is called the Peanut Butter Cold Brew Cookie. But is the cookie worth heading to Disney Springs and potentially waiting for? Read on, friends.
Peanut Butter Cold Brew Cookie Review
The Peanut Butter Cold Brew cookie is quite a magnificent creation. It is a peanut butter cookie dusted with Freshly Ground Decaf Espresso and fully covered in chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Reese’s Pieces.
I was fortunate enough to get to try one for myself. The cookie is peanut buttery, and while the candies are very sweet, the dark earthy bitter richness of the espresso balances the flavors. It keeps it from becoming too cloyingly sweet. Moreover, the chocolate keeps it from reading as a one-note peanut butter cookie. And, it has a touch of salt in there too that gives it just the right finish. It is one of those cookies where everything just works.
In fact, the cookie might work a little TOO well because I cut mine into slices thinking that is how much I would want to eat, but I kept coming back for just one more bite beyond that intended first slice. I should have taken them up on the two-per-person limit!
Here is a photo of the cookie in real life so you can see how it looks compared to the Gideon’s Bakehouse photo. Keep in mind that mine survived a trip home, so it is a little marred. Also, you should know that Gideon’s does caution that the cookies don’t travel well, but this one made it.
Does it taste like the PB Nitro Cold Brew in cookie form? I wouldn’t call them flavor twins. The chocolate from the peanut butter cups takes it in a direction that the drink does not go in. However, I can say with confidence that I do think they pair well together!
Will YOU Like It?
In order to enjoy this cookie, a few things need to be true. First, you must like peanut butter. Secondly, you need to enjoy espresso. While it is not overpoweringly coffee-flavored, it is certainly going to register on your palate as coffee.
Also, if you like a crispy cookie, Gideon’s might not be for you. These cookies are soft, and they are thick and dome-like, so they only get softer in the middle.
For my part, I truly enjoyed this cookie. It is not my very favorite of the special edition cookies that I have enjoyed over the years, but it certainly ranks in the top 3! My favorite of the limited-time offerings is the Sea Turtle Cookie from June. And, of course, my all-time favorite is the regular menu Pistachio Toffee Dark Chocolate cookie.
Have you had the Gideon’s Bakehouse August cookie yet? Did you like it? Or, are you planning to try it this month? Let us know in the comments. As always, please feel free to pass the review along to anyone you know planning a trip so that they don’t miss out on something delicious.
