A very serious car accident has led to very unfortunate fatalities. Here’s the story.
Accident at Disney World
At approximately 9:35 pm last night, August 10, we were made aware of a very serious car accident. Orange County Sheriffs completely closed the roads in the World Drive / Epcot / Magic Kingdom area. We don’t usually see public officials completely close roads for a typical fender bender.
When the public officials closed the section of road, they directed ALL traffic leaving the Orange and Lime garages away from the area. Traffic had to flow towards Saratoga Springs and the Disney Springs hotel district.
Judging by what we saw on Google maps, the accident appears to be just beyond Typhoon Lagoon and before Bonnet Creek Parkway. In particular, it occurred on the exit from Epcot Drive coming from I-4 towards Disney Springs. You can see the map in our original report.
Unfortunate Fatalities
Of course, our biggest concern last night wasn’t for the Guests who had a hard time driving to and from the area. No, our biggest concern was for the health and safety of those involved in the accident. It looked like a very serious accident.
And indeed it was. Two buses and several passenger vehicles were involved in the accident, which took several hours to attend to.
Thanks to our Twitter/X followers, we now know that Florida Highway Patrol handled the homicide investigation aspect of the accident. Thank you to @RealRangerDiego for tweeting us more information.
At this time, we do not have any further details on how many people were involved and how many fatalities occurred. Our prayers are with the people involved.
Are roads open now?
Yes, roads are open now according to Google Maps. If you are visiting Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon, or any of the surrounding areas you should have no trouble getting around.
