There is a new interactive card game in town, and it’s coming soon!
Disney Lorcana
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom retired early in 2021, and we miss having the interactive card game in the park. Now Disney is joining Ravensburger to create a family-friendly collectible trading card game Disney Lorcana.
While Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom was solely played inside Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park, Disney plans to compete now with Magic: The Gathering and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Did you know that Disney Lorcana will feature more original art than any other Disney product created? That’s pretty impressive!
How to Play
In the game, you’ll take on the role of an “Illumineer,” wielding six magical inks to summon glimmers: amber, amethyst, emerald, ruby, sapphire, and steel. Each ink enhances different parts of a character’s personality, powers, and appearance, making for some truly unique gameplay.
For example, amethyst glimmers like “Elsa – Snow Queen” use magic to keep their options open, while powerful steel glimmers like “Captain Hook – Forceful Duelist” are strong and tough.
A Delayed Start
The trading card game was originally scheduled to debut at Disneyland and Walt Disney World today, August 18, 2023, but the release was delayed.
Cards are NOT available at the parks at this time. You can read more about the delayed start and where you might be able to find some in this post HERE.
Coming Soon
With the news of the delayed start, we were not very sure about when this trading game might be released. Today, shopDisney shared that Disney Lorcana will be released beginning on September 1st.
Disney Lorcana will be available on shopDisney beginning September 1, 2023.
Each starter deck includes one starter deck of 60 cards, including two foil cards of the characters on the package front; 11 game tokens; one rulebook; one booster pack containing 12 randomized cards.
Starter Decks, Gift Sets, Playmats and Portfolios will all be available once it has been released.
