The closures span multiple parks. Are you at Disney World right now?
Headliner attractions
If you are planning a Disney trip (or you’ve been on one before), you probably have heard the term headliner attraction. Essentially, these are the most popular attractions that have long waits all day long.
At the Magic Kingdom, headliners include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Jungle Cruise, and Space Mountain. Epcot’s headliners include Cosmic Rewind, Test Track, and Frozen Ever After.
Over at Animal Kingdom, Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey are the two attractions guests love the most. Arguably, Hollywood Studios has the most headliners in any park: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, and Tower of Terror.
Down Right Now
It’s not uncommon to see some attraction closures at any point in the day, but first thing in the morning is pretty rough. Many Guests love to head to the parks early to “rope drop” these attractions. That’s because wait times are lowest first thing in the morning.
But what happens when you get to the park only to discover the rides are down? This morning, August 24, multiple headliner attractions are not operating. That includes Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Slinky Dog Dash, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios and Na’vi River Journey at Animal Kingdom.
We have no idea when these rides will resume today, but hopefully they will begin to operate soon. Wait times for other attractions will build the longer these rides are down.
What to do instead
If I (Monica) were at Hollywood Studios today, I would do Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway via standby. That is if the wait times are less than an hour. Otherwise, I would purchase an Individual Lightning Lane and/or grab a return time with Genie+.
Looking at Animal Kingdom, Avatar Flight of Passage has a 75 minute wait. Of course, being a savvy park goer, I would have already completed that attraction! So, I would head to Kilimanjaro Safari or Expedition Everest. I would get a return time for Na’vi as soon as it opens.
Are you in the parks today? What has your rope drop experience been like? Let us know in the comments below and share this post with a friend who is there today.
