It seems a strange time to announce cuts to Disney+ with rising costs. Find out which popular shows are getting cut.
Big Changes for Disney+
Disney+ started strong and boasted amazing numbers. Later it appears that some of these numbers were a bit misleading. Due to Disney+ budget discrepancies, former Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, was removed from his position.
Since Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, During the First Quarter Earnings Call, Disney+ subscriptions continue to show a downward slope for the streaming service. Back in May, Disney shared that they would begin removing content from Disney+ along with canceling new content that was previously announced.
Over the last several months we have seen many hit series and shows canceled. Now it appears two more shows are on the Disney+ chopping block.
New Cancellations
Back in 2021, Disney excited fans with news of a new adaptation of the popular Spiderwick Chronicles. Disney shared artwork and has even filmed the first season of eight episodes, but this series will not be streamed on Disney+.
According to Deadline, it is currently being offered to Paramount and other possible buyers. Along with this cost-cutting measure comes a cancelation as well.
Fans of the late 80’s early 90’s sitcom, Doogie Howser M.D., were pretty excited for a fresh look on this favorite show. Disney first debuted the new series, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., on Disney+ back in August 2021. Fans follow along as Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager.
There are currently two seasons available to stream on Disney+, and unfortunately, it seems that this journey is now come to an end. This show is now officially canceled according to Deadline and a third season will not follow.
This is not the only show that was once promised and now will never make it to Disney+. “Nautilus” was first announced two years as a live action remake of teh Captain Nemo series. This series is now also canceled and will not be available on Disney+.
This news comes at the same time as Disney+ will increase pricing for the ad-free tier. It seems as though Disney may try to add more content rather than announce cancelations with big price increases on the way.
Doogie Kameaoha, M.D. is now officially canceled after only 2 seasons.
What do you think of these changes? Do you think this will allow for better content or are too many things being removed from Disney+ for your preference? Share your thoughts with us and share this news with your Disney pals.
