The Haunted Mansion is a fan-favorite attraction. And now, it is getting a major expansion!
Haunted Mansion Ride
The Haunted Mansion is one of the most popular attractions Disney has created. It combines both “spooky” and “funny” elements to create a “haunted” experience that is uniquely Disney.
This attraction combines the work of some of the best Disney Imagineers in the company’s history to create illusions and tricks that bring guests back again and again. Some of the attraction’s best tricks, like those in the ballroom scene, rely upon fairly old “technology” to create memorable illusions that still entertain guests each and every day!
Now, Disney shares plans to expand the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland.
Expansion
Disney shares, “the stately grounds of the Haunted Mansion will expand” next year. This will include a larger outdoor queue. If you have ever been on the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, you know the queue is mostly outside and quite small. Here’s a look at the concept art Disney shares for the queue:
In addition, Disney will install new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one-eyed cat. Similar to Memento Mori gift shop in Disney World, a Madame Leota retail shop will open near the attraction’s exit.

When will work take place?
With the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay almost complete, work will not begin until January. Typically, after the Halloween and Christmas season, Disney will close Haunted Mansion to remove all of the overlays. I imagine some work for the new additions will take place at the same time.
We are unsure if the ride will need to close longer than normal due to all this work, or if Disney will be able to operate the attraction as normal. Disney promises to share more early next year, and we will keep you posted!
