The “happiest cruise that ever sailed” will be closing for refurbishment soon. Here are the details so you can plan accordingly.
it’s a small world
You will never get the song out of your head! Children love this simple, melodious attraction with dolls singing from around the world. You will load a boat with about a dozen other guests and set sail for a journey from different locations around the world.
The Disney World version is a derivation of an original creation for the 1964 World’s Fair. “it’s a small world” is synonymous with the happiest cruise that ever sailed. While some absolutely love this attraction, others are not a fan of the never-ending song.
“it’s a small world” holiday
Although the attraction first opened in 1966, the “it’s a small world” holiday overlay became a tradition in 1997 at Disneyland Park.
If you find yourself singing and humming along to its original catchy tune, wait until you experience the musical rendition during the holiday. Every holiday season, the holiday overlay is filled with decorations, seasonal costumes and two holiday carols, “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls”.
The songs are interwoven with the original song for the attraction as guests set sail.
Refurbishment
Every year the ride closes in mid-October and reopens a few weeks later just in time for the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort. This allows crews to transform into “it’s a small world” Holiday!
The attraction will close on October 23, 2023 and is scheduled to reopen on November 10. This is only a little over two weeks, but it can be very disappointing for Guests who have visits during this time.
I (Monica) prefer the Disneyland version compared to the Disney World version. It is fun looking for all the Disney dolls!
