Hurricane season is still in full swing at Disney World. However, this severe weather warning is for something completely DIFFERENT!
Severe Weather
While most don’t like to think about the possibility of severe weather impacting their Disney World vacation, less than ideal conditions can and do happen.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. That’s half the year! Typically, the bulk of hurricanes hit during the months of August, September, and October. September is considered peak hurricane season in Florida.
With that, that means there is a good possibility for rain during your trip. It may be a little sprinkle to a full on thunderstorm with lightning and wind gusts.
Tornado Watch
While quite a bit of rain is expected to come down at Disney World today, October 12, the severe weather is not for a hurricane. Instead, it’s for a tornado.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for a large portion of the state. That includes Disney World as well as other Central Florida attractions.
It was issued just before 9:00 am today and is expected to be in effect until 3:00 pm. The National Weather Service states that tornadoes are possibly during this time frame. 70 mph winds are also expected as well.
As a reminder, a tornado watch means all the conditions are favorable for a tornado.
Disney World Precautions
At the time of writing, Disney World has not announced any changes to its operations today. You will likely see a lot of outdoor attractions close as wind and rain get heavy.
