No introduction is needed for Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Company would not exist if it weren’t for his vision.

The dream of Disneyland came as Walt Disney ate peanuts while sitting on a park bench as he watched his daughters enjoy a Merry-Go-Round at Griffith Park.

Disney said, “I felt that there should be something built where the parents and the children could have fun together. So that’s how Disneyland started.”

For the first time ever, as part of Open House Chicago, The Chicago Architecture Center is opening up doors to Walt Disney’s Childhood Home to the public. The home of Walt Disney was built for just $800 in Chicago, Illinois.

“Walt Disney was an example that, you know, if you come from humble beginnings, if you work hard, you follow your dreams. You could change the world,”

Rey Colon, Walt Disney Birthplace project director

Walt Disney was born in the two-story home here in Chicago in 1901. The Walt Disney family were very involved in businesses and the church in their community.
