We all know The Walt Disney Company is a multi-billion dollar company. In 2023 alone, Disney Parks are set to create at least 9 billion dollars in profit. See how those numbers were figured as we break down income and expenses.
SEC Filing
The Walt Disney Company recently provided numbers to reflect accurate financial statements vs what was previously recorded. The three divisions included are Sports, Entertainment, and Experiences.
Today we will look at the Experiences division which is comprised of the theme parks. It includes a breakdown of park admission, resorts, merchandise, and more.
Income
Disney has several forms of income in the Experiences division. It includes theme park admissions, merchandise, food and beverages, resorts and vacations, merchandise licensing and retails, and parks licensing (and miscellaneous).
For the nine months ending on July 1, 2023, the company claims 7.8 billion in theme park admission alone. Let’s take a look at the rest:
- Merchandise, food, and beverage: 5.846 billion
- Resorts and vacations: 5.919 billion
- Merchandise licensing and retail: 3.246 billion
- Parks licensing and other: 1.578 billion
The total comes out to 24.389 billion!
Expenses
Of course, Disney has to spend money to make money. For the nine months ending on July 1, 2023 the company spend 12.524 billion in operating expenses.
Also, a category titled “selling, general, administrative, and other” cost 2.652 billion. Depreciation and amortization cost the company 2.016 billion. All in all, that comes out to be 17.192 billion in expenses.
Total Profit
When you do the math, total profit comes out to 7.195 billion for the 9 months. In our estimate, that leaves room for another 2 billion or so in profit to finish out FY 2023.
