Many Guests visiting Disney World have no idea about all the little ways Disney celebrates the holidays in its parks. You might miss it if you don’t know what to look for! Even Disney animals get in the Halloween spirit!
Halloween Fun In Disney
There is so much fun in Walt Disney World during the holidays, and Halloween is no exception. Many people know about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, the hard ticket party on select evenings in the Magic Kingdom.
But, did you know there is also plenty of Halloween fun you can indulge in WITHOUT a party ticket? We have a fun list for you HERE, but there is something we forgot to mention.
Animal Kingdom Fun
What better way is there to enjoy the Halloween season than with pumpkins? The fun all started on National Pumpkin Day when the “chefs” at Walt Disney World Resort’s Animal Nutrition Center celebrated by preparing a delicious and nutritious snack for a group of giant Galápagos tortoises at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
The snack? Pumpkins carved into festive Jack-o-Lanterns! Galapagos tortoises Phantom, Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Creature enjoyed feasting on their pumpkins. You can find these enchanting creatures on Discovery Island and pay them a visit! You might even see them enjoying pumpkins!
But Wait, There’s MORE
The pumpkin fun doesn’t stop with the tortoises. The nutritionists at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are getting into the Halloween spirit by delivering over 200 pumpkins to animals across Walt Disney World to ensure a wide variety of species get to participate in the festive fall fun.
That means that during your Halloween visit, you might just spot one of the many animals who call Walt Disney World home enjoying a pumpkin! Be on the lookout because all SORTS of animals love and benefit from pumpkins.
According to the experts at Disney, “nutritionally, pumpkins provide many vitamins and minerals, like beta-carotene, potassium, and vitamin C to help boost the immune system. They’re also loaded with fiber for good digestive health!”
Of course, not every animal will eat the pumpkins. In that case, they are put to good use in many other ways. Some keepers add them to habitats as festive decorations. Some animals will play with them, and others sometimes smash them. It’s all part of the enrichment program that provides opportunities for animals to use their instincts while exploring their environment.
The fun does not end in Animal Kingdom. You might spot pumpkins in habitats at Animal Kingdom Lodge, EPCOT, and Fort Wilderness. You never know where they might turn up!
Be on the lookout for Disney’s Animals enjoying pumpkins around the resort!
