Is This the Reason for the Increase in Sold Out Disney World Parties?

We have noticed a unique trend that may give us a clue as to when Disney World’s seasonal parties tend to sell out. With the latest announcements, a few more have sold out.

Every year, Disney World hosts two seasonal parties at the Magic Kingdom. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween runs from mid August to late October, and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place mid November to late December.

These parties include exclusive entertainment like fireworks and the parade. Plus, you can experience attraction overlays and regular favorites. And let’s not forget there are a ton of characters that you can only meet during the party!

The events almost always sell out for both parties, but we noticed an interesting trend for when they sell out.

In case you missed it, Disney shared all the details for the Christmas Party earlier this week. It includes a map, character lineup, parade and fireworks viewing times, and more.

Since then, we noticed two more dates sold out: November 13 and November 17. That brings the total of sold out dates to 6 before the event even starts:

  • November 9, 10, 13, 17
  • December 1, 22

The first two events almost always sell out immediately for social media influencers, bloggers, and the like. What’s interesting is two more dates almost immediately sold out after the character announcements were made.

Why?

We all know entertainment stays the same year after year for the most part. What changes are the characters. Some are mainstays like Mickey, the princesses/princes, and Jack and Sally.

However, some get moved around or come and go. For example, The Seven Dwarfs did not meet for Boo Bash or Mickey’s Most Merriest in 2021. In addition, they were also absent from 2022’s parties. Now, they are back and we are wondering if these characters in particular are the tipping point for some people to purchase tickets.

They are incredibly popular characters, and wait times can reach one hour or more during the event. We began to wonder if most people make up their mind about attending once the guide is released and Disney shares which characters will be available.

Once the first few parties begin, we expect to see more dates sell out at a faster rate. This event will sell out completely.
