Disney produces physical pins that Guests love to collect and trade. But, would you buy a digital version? Would it still be appealing to you? It appears that is the direction Disney is heading.
Pins
Many Disney fans love to purchase, collect, and trade pins. These little pins feature countless attractions, characters, movies, and more. You can find resort pins, holiday pins, and so forth.
Pin trading has become a favorite pastime for those visiting the parks. Simply find another Guest or a Cast Member who would like to trade with you. Guests may have a board outside their room, or a Cast Member will be stationed in the parks with a board.
You should only purchase authentic Disney pins to trade. This maintains the integrity of the activity. Also, be sure you are respectful of other Guests. Read more about a recent pin ban Disney put into place HERE.
Digital Collector Pins
According to Decrypt, Disney is collaborating with NBA Top Shot maker Dapper Labs to produce digital pins minted as NFTs on Flow. It will be called Disney Pinnacle.
These pin-inspired digital collectibles are based on Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars characters and IP. You may find characters from Toy Story, Darth Vader, and Disney princesses.
Marvel will not be part of the initial launch.
More Details
The digital pins are suited for smartphones, which will provide a better balance between every day collectors and limited edition collectors. Disney Pinnacle is opening up the waitlist today, November 14, to help test the experience out.
At this time, we do not have a public launch date other than “fall“.
I think the concept of a digital collector pin is interesting. Many people like the fun of trading pins with others, but there are many serious collectors out there.
