Hear us out, you NEED to visit Blizzard Beach! This is a bold claim with the four Walt Disney World Theme Parks, but find out why this was the best part of our most recent trip to Walt Disney World.
1. Great Break from Theme Parks
There are so many great attractions at the four Walt Disney World Theme Parks, but at times you may need a break from the parks. Blizzard Beach is an excellent rest day activity. The price is very affordable and will keep your entire family engaged for a full day of fun.
Due to the size of Blizzard Beach, there is much more space to run and explore than at your Walt Disney World Resort pool. You can truly spend an entire day at the park for a fraction of a Theme Park ticket.
2. Amazing Theming
Legend has it that a snow storm came out of the western end of Walt Disney World to everyone’s delight. Immediately, Floridians constructed a ski resort to enjoy this frozen oasis. However as Olaf can attest, put snow in summer and you will have a……happy snowman, right?
Well as you guessed it, before the first guest could strap on their skis the snow became slush. To everyone’s delight a big “Yahoo” could be heard as a playful alligator came sliding down Summit Plummet.
This resulted in a melting paradise of sorts, and this melting paradise is perfect in steamy Central Florida.
3. Great Layout
In my opinion, Disney Imagineers took what was missing at Typhoon Lagoon and made Blizzard Beach to be the ultimate water park.
The layout for Blizzard Beach far supersedes that of Typhoon Lagoon. Guests can enjoy great sandy beaches and a ski lift that fits great with the theming of this park. It also shuttles guests to the top peak to enjoy many great attractions while saving a few steps.
My (Donna) children are at various ages and have many different plans for enjoying the day at Blizzard Beach. The layout made this park easy for us to keep track of where each child was throughout the day.
4. Thrilling Attractions
The central icon for Blizzard Beach is Summit Plummet. This water slide sends guests on a thrilling journey down 12 stories. That is a total 360-foot descent. I (Donna) will be honest that this slide terrified me.
All the while my oldest two children raced up and down the countless flights of stairs to enjoy this attraction again and again. There is a large seating location near the exit of Summit Plummet. This is a great way to watch as your family members enjoy this attraction.
There is also Slush Gusher which is quite thrilling. You will get some “air” as you slip down this snow-banked slide. My two oldest kids loved the two large hills that made them feel like they were soaring rather than sliding down.
5. Great Kid Spaces
There are also great areas themed specifically for the younger guests. Tike’s Peak is for guests 48 inches and shorter. This space received a new look last year with a great Frozen overlay.
Younger guests can enjoy wading pools with Olaf and his best Snowgie pals. Enjoy a magical igloo fortress with Anna and Elsa as kids take aim and spray one another with pop-up water jets.
Great fun for even the youngest guests with miniature snow-banked slides, side-by-side downhill slides, snow chutes, and even a fun junior inner-tube ride.
Ski Patrol Training Camp is also a great space for older children. My youngest daughter spent the majority of her time in this space. With a fun Thin Ice obstacle course, you can try to balance while walking across broken sheets of “ice”.
There are three different slides for all ages and heights.
For guests 5 feet and under, enjoy the Fahrenheit Drop. There are two different zip lines available for guests depending on their height. This is the one attraction that kept my youngest running back in line again and again.
6. Focus on Relaxation
If you want to relax on sandy beaches or climb to the highest peak for a thrilling ride, this park has it all. No need to pack up your huge beach bag for a day at Blizzard Beach.
As a guest, Blizzard Beach has great food to purchase or you can bring in your own food and drinks. Disney Resort Guests can check out beach towels for free and drop them off in laundry bins before you exit.
They even have life jackets for all sizes. There is plenty of seating, but there are also cabanas and patios that available to rent for the day for an additional cost. Advanced reservations are recommended for these cabanas.
Leave your beach bag at home because Blizzard Beach has life jackets available for free.
7. Great Food
After all of this fun and play, you are going to work up quite an appetite. Thankfully, there are many delicious dining options. Over at the Warming Hut, we enjoyed Loaded Nachos with Walt’s famous chili.
These loaded nachos were so good – better than most park food by a long shot. We also tried the Honey-Sriracha chicken wings that were pretty good, but not quite as good as the loaded nachos.
Lottawatta Lodge offers pretty basic park food such as pizza and chicken tenders. The food was adequate, but nowhere near the level of Warming Hut.
Warming Hut is the best dining option at Blizzard Beach in our opinion.
8. Disney Experience
The great part of visiting Blizzard Beach is that you still receive the magic of Disney while not inside the Disney Theme Parks. You can enjoy a fun day while not leaving the “Disney Bubble.”
Cast Members are always helpful and bring the magic of Disney with interactive games, fun chalk drawings, and even bubbles. Disney transportation is also provided both to and from Blizzard Beach.
9. Special Theming
We mentioned earlier that guests can enjoy a special Frozen overlay at Pike’s Peak. At select times of the year, guests can also visit with Tropical Santa.
You can see Santa in a big red suit all over, but there are not many locations where you see Tropical Santa. Be on the lookout for Tropical Santa who will greet guests throughout the day around Sonny’s Sleds, Cross Country Creek, and Tike’s Peak.
10. Extend the Fun
Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon close much earlier than the Theme Parks. Be sure to check the My Disney Experience app for current park hours. While exiting Blizzard Beach early evening, be sure to extend the fun over at Disney’s Winter Summerland Golf Course.
This miniature golf course offers two separate courses to choose from. You can choose to enjoy the Winterland side or enjoy Santa and his elves on vacation at the Summerland side.
The best part is that this golf course is just a short walk from Blizzard Beach. This makes a great end to your non-park day.
