Guests traveling to the “Sunshine State” can plan for showers, but when severe weather hits, that is a whole different situation. Many times, outdoor attractions will close because of rain and lightning.

The time of the closure is largely based on the length of the storm and also the upcoming weather forecast as well. Florida sees a fair share of inclement weather from an extended hurricane season stretching from June 1 to November 30, severe heat, tornado warnings, and even cold temperatures.

Many Disney guests are preparing for a stormy weekend. At the time of this writing, Walt Disney World is expecting 2 to 3 inches of widespread rain. Along with this precipitation, guests should expect wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Due to this weather pattern, Walt Disney World is closing down Blizzard Beach water park. Blizzard Beach will close on both Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17. Both dates show no operating hours.

This is a bit disappointing for guests as this water park. The best advice if you are traveling to Walt Disney World is the infamous line from Lion King’s Scar, “Be Prepared!”

If you are traveling to Walt Disney World pack all your rainy-day gear and also be flexible. Your touring plan may be affected if outdoor attractions shut down. Adding a bit of flexibility with ponchos in tow will help a “Rainy Day at Disney” to still be a magical one.

Walt Disney World is expecting 2 to 3 inches of widespread rain and 35 mph winds this weekend.
