It’s not common for Disney World to cancel a special-ticketed event. In today’s case, it seems Disney is taking extra precautions and choosing to save themselves the headache.
Severe Weather
Guests traveling to the “Sunshine State” can plan for showers, but when severe weather hits, that is a whole different situation. Many times, outdoor attractions will close because of rain and lightning.
The time of the closure is largely based on the length of the storm and also the upcoming weather forecast as well. Florida sees a fair share of inclement weather from an extended hurricane season stretching from June 1 to November 30, severe heat, tornado warnings, and even cold temperatures.
Many Disney guests are preparing for a stormy weekend. Disney World is expecting 2 to 3 inches of widespread rain. Along with this precipitation, guests should expect wind gusts up to 35 mph. Disney already closed Blizzard Beach, and now an offering will be canceled.
Canceled
Jollywood Nights is canceled for tonight, December 16. Hollywood Studios is hosting its first ever holiday event this year. It’s called Jollywood Nights and it celebrates everything we love about the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood – Christmas style!
There are two new stage shows, tons of character meet and greet opportunities, the return of Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, exclusive food and beverages, and other experiences. Be sure to read my full review HERE.
Unfortunately, due to anticipated weather, Disney just made the decision to cancel the event. Typically, when severe weather occurs during one of these special-ticketed events, Guests ask for a refund. It appears as though Disney is preparing for this, and instead decided to cancel.
This will end up saving them money as they will not need to put on the event tonight AND dish out refunds. We are sorry for those of you who were planning to attend tonight. Disney stated they will automatically refund your tickets.
There are only two more nights of Jollywood: December 18 and December 20. Both still have tickets available.
Did you have tickets for tonight? What will you do instead? Let us know in the comments below. If you aren’t going, share this post with someone who was going tonight.
