Just as rumors began to pick up that Voyage of the Little Mermaid would be coming back, Disney confirmed that a new show will replace it. Do you like the idea of a new show?
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Voyage of the Little Mermaid is located in Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. During this show, you can sing along with colorful puppets, live performers, and special effects as they retell the story of Ariel.
The laser and water effects give viewers the feeling of exploring “under the sea.” It debuted in 1992 – just a few years after the park opened!
The show remains largely unchanged since it debuted. With the live-action version of the movie released and live-action character meet and greet, it may be on Disney’s radar to get the show up to speed.
Just earlier this morning we shared a rumor that Disney was planning to make an announcement soon. And here it is!
New Show
The show will be titled “The Little Mermaid-A Musical Adventure” and is a reimagined theatrical production. It will debut in the fall of 2024 and will feature new set pieces, effects, and a new design. In addition, the theater will be refreshed!
Disney released concept art, and judging by the looks of it we can still expect a dark show. Ariel and Prince Eric are in the “kissing scene” boat as Flounder, Sebastian, and other sea creatures look on.
It’s still unclear if this will be more like the cartoon version or live-action version. And, with a debut date almost a year away Disney will likely wait a while to share more details.
