New Ride Shuts Down as Guest Jumps Out and Gets Injured

Rides shut down all the time, either from malfunctioning or Guest behavior. We hope this youngster is okay and the ride reopens soon!

Unfortunately, things happen at Disney Parks. With so many people coming in and out every day, Cast Members really do a terrific job of keeping operations running smoothly.

A child reportedly jumped out of a ride and was run over by a vehicle. This happened earlier today, December 24, in Shanghai Disney. As a reminder, this park is several hours ahead of US parks.

Apparently, the child dropped a headband and jumped out of the ride to pick it up. Then, the young Guest continued walking as the ride continues on.

Reportedly, they were hit by one of the vehicles and was pinned under it. According to some of these reports (though not confirmed), the child was dragged for some time before Cast Members stopped the ride.

The Ride

The ride in question is part of Disney’s newest Zootopia land. Hot Pursuit is the e-ticket attraction. Disney describes it as:

Get ready to become a rookie police officer at the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD)! Set after the Walt Disney Animation Studios film’s timeline, residents of Zootopia are gearing up for a big concert celebrating Zootopia Day featuring Gazelle.

When you walk into the ZPD for orientation, you’ll be greeted by Officer Clawhauser. Suddenly, an alarm sounds and you’ll be whisked away to an emergency briefing delivered by Chief Bogo where you’ll learn that Gazelle has been kidnapped — on the day of the anticipated concert!

Before you know it, you’ll be assigned to back up Officer Judy Hopps and her partner, Nick Wilde, now officially a police officer, in an action-filled police chase.

Shanghai Disney shares the ride will be closed for the remainder of the day. Hopefully the ride will be able to reopen. Maybe Disney will take some time instead to ensure the ride operates safely.
