Check out all the details about when this iconic attraction will be unavailable to Disney guests due to an upcoming refurbishment. Then, you may want to adjust your plans if you have your heart set on riding it.
Iconic Attraction
Children of all ages enjoy the festive dolls singing and scenes from around the world in the “it’s a small world” ride. You might even find yourself humming the iconic “It’s a Small World After All” song long after the ride. The journey takes you through different locations around the world on a boat with about a dozen other guests.
The Disneyland version of the ride is different from the original version created for the 1964 World’s Fair. While some people love this attraction, others do not enjoy the never-ending song.

Since 1997, the “it’s a small world” holiday overlay has become a tradition at Disneyland Park. During the holiday season, the overlay is adorned with decorations, seasonal costumes, holiday carols, “Jingle Bells,” and “Deck the Halls.” If you enjoy the original catchy tune, wait until you hear the musical rendition during the holiday season.
The ride closes in mid-October every year and reopens a few weeks later, just in time for the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort. This closure period allows crews to transform the ride into “it’s a small world” holiday!
Refurbishments
Disney recently announced that the “it’s a small world” ride will undergo refurbishment in January 2024 at Disneyland. The ride will be closed for refurbishment from January 7-18 and will remove the holiday elements. The last day guests can ride the holiday version is January 7.

Like Disneyland’s “it’s a small world,” the Haunted Mansion attraction also closes to remove the holiday Nightmare Before Christmas decorations and expand this cool attraction. Check out the refurbishment dates HERE and other Disneyland attraction changes HERE.
In addition, the following Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure areas are closed: Blue Bayou, Astro Orbiter, Mark Twain Riverboat, Grizzly River Run, and Paradise Garden Grill. A ton of other refurbishments are coming next month at Disney World, too! See the details HERE on which rides will not be available then.
January is a popular month for ALL the Disney refurbishments. Is it worth going then or will you wait?
