Pixar brings us great feature films like Toy Story, Luca, Soul, and Ratatouille. In addition to movies, Pixar also produces short films for theaters, Disney+, Cars toons, Toy Story toons, and more.

In fact, Pixar’s first ventures in storytelling through film were with short films and commercials. A recent short we loved was Carl’s date, which debuted in theaters before Elemental.

These shorts can sometimes be based off characters from feature films to expand their story. Or, they may introduce new concepts and characters. Either way, we love these!

Pixar’s all-new SparkShort is titled “Self.” It is the first hybrid stop-motion animation using both stop-motion and CGI. So far we do not have a trailer, but Pixar did share this first look, which you can see above.

Directed by Searit Huluf and produced by Eric Rosales, “Self” is a story of a wooden doll’s journey of self-discovery as she strives to fit in and blend in with her peers. Sounds an awful lot like Pinocchio, right?

It streams February 2 on Disney+.

  • Twenty Something
  • Burrow
  • Out
  • Purl
  • Smash and Grab
