Disney Cruise Line is Cracking Down on a Popular Tradition

If you are a member of Disney’s Castaway Club you likely have traditions you love to engage during your voyage. Heed caution though. Disney Cruise Line is cracking down on a fun tradition that many people enjoy participating in. Here is what you need to know.

Disney Cruise Line is certainly a travel option to enjoy if you want to be where the Magic Meets the Sea! Our Kenny the Pirate writers LOVE embarking on Disney Cruises. You can read about some of their positive experiences HERE and HERE.

It is true that Disney brings a lot of magic to its cruises including Broadway-quality shows, character meets, enchanting dining experiences, fireworks, and Disney theming. However, sometimes the magic comes from the cruisers themselves!

For example, some participate in Fish Extender groups and gift each other with fun presents! But be careful, Disney is creaking down on one fun tradition.

Rubber Ducks

Some cruisers, not just on Disney Cruise Line, but on many ships, like to participate in the tradition of hiding rubber ducks for other cruisers to find. The recipients can keep the ducks or hide them again to delight others.

However, it looks like Disney Cruise Line is taking steps to prevent the hiding of ducks aboard the ship! It should be noted that Disney Cruise Line’s policies never supported hiding ANYTHING in staterooms or public areas on board the ship.

Even so, it is being reiterated that cruisers should NOT violate this rule of hiding anything in staterooms or public areas onboard the ship. And, Crew Members are taking steps to prevent it, including the removal of the ducks.

Disney Cruise Line is discouraging Cruisers from hiding ducks aboard ships.

For example, on PlanDisney, one cruiser asked, “Are we allowed to hide ducks on the ships? Security on our recent Disney cruise were removing them and told us to stop, but I can’t find this written anywhere.”

The panelist responded that, “guests cannot hide things, such as rubber ducks in staterooms or public areas on the ship.” She went on to say “Crew Members are removing any ducks they spot around the ship.

Alternative Fun

Fortunately, there are still plenty of ways to have fun on a Disney Cruise! In fact, I’d venture to say that there is more fun than can be had in one sailing!

And, while hiding items is prohibited, (so far) there is nothing explicitly stated against gifting other cruisers with Pixie Dust if you wish to! You simply should avoid hiding it to be found.

To be clear, ducks have not been banned from ships. For example, if your little one likes to bring one along to play with, that is allowed. Again, the rule being more strictly enforced is that Cruisers should not hide anything in staterooms or public areas.
