Like Walt Disney World, Disneyland ceased annual pass sales in 2020. But, unlike its east coast counterpart, Disneyland remained closed for over a year. Disneyland then announced the Magic Key program as the replacement for the discontinued annual pass program.

When Disneyland announced their new Magic Key program to replace annual passes, the fine print said that the Keys could potentially sell out. And, this happens frequently. Multiple tiers may be completely sold out at any given time. Sometimes, they are all sold out!

This morning, January 10, Disneyland resumed sales of all tiers. But, it has not been without chaos.

If you remember the Oogie Boogie drama this past summer, you probably remember how chaotic it was trying to get tickets online for that event. Disneyland actually had to stop sales and resume them at a later date because the technology was not able to keep up with demand.

Many people seem to have the right idea by going to the park instead and physically waiting in line to get a Magic Key Pass. Unfortunately, the technology was still not able to keep up.

First, the line for the ticket booth was incredibly long. To make matters worse, the credit card machines were reportedly down today. As a result, Guests hoping to purchase a pass waited hours before being able to purchase one.

What’s even more interesting is the fine print says Magic Key purchase are only available online. Hopefully all those people waiting were trying to upgrade tickets to a pass!

First, we noticed the landing page for Magic Keys was temporarily unavailable. This led to a lot of confusion about how to purchase the Magic Key, and those precious minutes lost could mean the difference in getting a pass or not.

Finally, it opened up after approximately 10 minutes. As you may suspect, a virtual waiting room was immediately put in place. People are waiting several hours to get into the system. But other than the long wait, there seem to be no technical issues.

Hopefully everyone who wants a Magic Key is able to get one! Have you run into any other problems purchasing one? Let us know in the comments below.
