Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of Disney’s most ambitious attractions to date. It incorporates some awesome new technology which may have negative consequences on your stomach. Here is how to minimize the chances of getting motion sickness without taking medicine.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
This new family-thrill coaster matches the and fun and thrill of the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. It features our favorite cosmic outlaws: Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora and Star-Lord (a.k.a. Peter Quill). The one-of-a-kind attraction is another milestone in the ongoing transformation of EPCOT.
Located in the park’s newly renamed World Discovery neighborhood, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT. Xandarians traveled from their world in the Andromeda Galaxy to Earth, or Terra.
Here, they invite EPCOT guests to learn more about their people and their advanced technologies. But, it doesn’t go according to plan, forcing the until the Xandarians to call on the Guardians of the Galaxy for help.
Why It May Cause Motion Sickness
Not only is the storyline incredibly detailed and incorporates Epcot, but it also uses some amazing technology we have not seen on other Disney attractions. First, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind features the first reverse launch in any Disney park.
And, the controlled rotating omnicoaster immerses guests in all of the exciting action. What exactly does this mean? Well, on standard roller coasters you are only facing one way: forward. But, on Cosmic Rewind, the ride vehicle moves a full 360 degrees on the track.
As you can imagine, this may not settle well with Guests. Some coasters are hard enough as it is, so adding a rotating vehicle makes it even worse. Some common attractions that commonly cause motion sickness are Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Expedition Everest, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
We have heard reports of some Guests who never get motion sick get up an upset stomach after riding Guardians. And some Guests who usually experience motion sickness at Disney say they do not have it on this particular ride. Disney placed a few more trash cans at the exit just in case, but why risk it?
You Could Take Medicine
I (Monica) am pro-Dramamine when I am at Disney World. Feeling sick on vacation is a horrible feeling, and I do not want to even risk it. So, as a precautionary measure I take one every morning beginning with travel day.
You could do the same. But, there are many valid reasons for not wanting to take motion-sickness medicine. For one, these types of medicines typically make you drowsy (even if they claim to be less-drowsy). You need that energy for touring the parks all week!
Second, sometimes people just cannot handle taking medicine for motion sickness, and that’s ok! So, how do you avoid losing your lunch on Cosmic Rewind?
Another Alternative
The alternative is knowing where to sit to avoid having your lunch come back up. You will want to request the very first row. You may have to wait a few extra minutes, but it could make all the difference in the world.
Second, no matter where or how the ride vehicle turns, keep your head forward. I know it can be very tempting to look around. After all, it is such a fun ride and you are moving so fast. But, I caution you – looking to the sides too much will not be good for your stomach.
It’s just like riding in a car. Yes, I am prone to motion sickness in the car as well, and looking out the side windows is the first thing to make me ill! The same is true for Cosmic Rewind.
