Have you ever wondered what you would need to do if your child were to unexpectedly lose a tooth while you are on your Walt Disney World vacation? Never fear, Disney has probably got you covered with some special magic for those who wish for it! Here is everything you need to know (just in case).
Disney Magic
One of the reasons that Guests of the Walt Disney World resort find themselves returning to the Most Magical Place on Earth over and over again is that little dose of Disney Magic that comes to those who wish for it. After all, Disney World is more than just a group of parks filled with attractions. It has so many little details that bring it to life and make it magical.
Cast Members also go above and beyond to make trips magical. This most frequently comes in the form of extra kindness and patience.
Some Guests even experience what is known among fans as “Pixie Dust” when they receive special experiences or freebies that they were not expecting! For example, we have heard of Guests receiving free sweets on their birthdays when servers notice their birthday buttons or notations of birthday celebrations on their reservations.
My (Kate’s) own family once received an unexpected extra ride on Guardians of the Galaxy courtesy of a kind Cast Member. You just never know what little treats may await. And, they seem to happen as random acts of kindness.
However, Disney has some pre-panned magic up its sleeves, too. For example, if your child loses a tooth unexpectedly, and you have no place to keep it safe, your Walt Disney World Resort hotel can probably help you out!
CAUTION for Parents
Parents, you may want your children to be out of the room before you continue to read to avoid little eyes reading over your shoulder. We do not want to spoil magical surprises for anyone.
Send your children on their way before you continue to scroll.
Be Prepared
We know that not everyone teaches their children to believe in the Tooth Fairy, and we fully stand by your decision. However, if you DO choose to discuss the Tooth Fairy with your children, and one of your children has a loose tooth, you may want to be prepared for what is to come just in case. This is true even if it’s just a tiny bit wiggly before you leave for your trip.
Many people enjoy the convenience of being able to use their MagicBands for all charges and do not carry around things such as cash when they visit the Walt Disney World Resort. It is a great benefit; however, this does mean that if you need some cash money (say to put under a pillow in exchange for a tooth), you may be out of luck!
Doubtless, it will slip many minds to be prepared for such things, and you may find a tooth falls out while you are on vacation. This happened with one of my own little ones at 10:45 PM when we were getting ready for bed. Fortunately, the front desk had ideas!
Tinker Bell Steps In
I went to the front desk and asked if they had any sort of bag or container suitable for holding a lost tooth. The sweet Cast Member who was up late working gleefully said that not only did she have something, she had a special tooth-shaped box on a necklace for us to place the tooth in so it wouldn’t get lost.
This is a handy tool for any parent, including those who prefer to follow other traditions. For example, some bury the tooth. Others preserve teeth. Some throw them onto the floor or onto the roof while they make a wish! Whatever the tradition, this little tooth box can keep a tooth safely stored until you return home if you wish.
She asked me if my child knew about the Tooth Fairy. And then she offered us a very special and magical piece of information. In Disney World, Tinker Bell fills in for the Tooth Fairy!
She asked me to wait one moment and disappeared behind the desk. When she returned, she had a piece of paper with her. Printed on it was a special letter. She also provided an envelope for the letter to go in.
The letter reads: When we told Tinker Bell that you had lost your tooth, she was very excited and told the Tooth Fairy right away! Since they are friends, the Tooth Fairy lets Tinker Bell help her out while children are here at Disney World. We hope this helps to make it a very magical memory!
It is important to note that some resorts may have different variations of the letter or different provisions. This one came from Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.
More Magic
You could leave this very special letter with a gift at the resort. Or, you could even explain that the little tooth box has been left as a placeholder until you get home depending on what you are able to do with the resources you have on hand. The ideas are endless if you get a little creative.
Lastly, Little One also received a special celebration button that one of the Cast Members made for her at Animal Kingdom the next Morning. It says celebrating “losing my tooth!” And she decorated it with a little tooth, too.
Needless to say, the experience delighted my little one. She still keeps her letter in a special place.

Our daughter lost hers on the Disney Magic. We went to the concierge and they gave us Mickey confetti, a Mickey rice crispy treat and a certificate. Pretty cool experience for her and us!

When our granddaughter lost her first tooth, they did nothing for her. We were staying at the expensive $700/night Club Level at the Polynesian and the concierge did nothing for her when I told him. So disappointing! We've actually found better service and nicer cast members at the value resorts!
