You will not believe this cutting-edge technology until you see it for yourself. This is revolutionary for bringing our favorite Disney stories to life like never before. Check out our first glimpse of this tech and also the big awards already bestowed to the Imagineer who invented it.
Disney Technology
Disney continues to engage with new technology to bring our favorite characters to life. Last year, Star Wars fans were overjoyed to see the Mandalorian and Grogu arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is not the traditional character meet and greet that we are used to, but this takes the magic of Disney storytelling to a new level.
Disney has not stopped there. They introduced an incredible meet and greet with the Hulk as well. Along with this Disney has created fully functional “Stuntronics” such as Spiderman over at California Adventure.
A prototype loving referred to as “Project Kiwi” is a fully functional walking animatronic. See how guests can interact with “Project Kiwi” as Groot HERE.
Achievement Unlocked
Lanny Smoot is an Imagineer with a record number of 100 patents for the Walt Disney Company. Smoot made the newest floating Leota head refurbishment a reality. He also created the most realistic expandable and extendable lightsaber for use at the Disney Parks.
Smoot continues to push the boundaries and dream big and this innovation has paid off in a BIG way. He was recently inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his invention of “HoloTile Floor”.
This is a big lifetime achievement. Smoot is now only the second person to receive this award from the Walt Disney Company. The first and only other recipient was Walt Disney himself for the innovation of the multi-plane camera.

HoloTile Floor
Lanny Smoot gives us a look at this brand-new technology in the video below. HoloTile Floor is made up of small circular pieces that move and rotate as the user walks on it, allowing for multidirectional movement.
According to Smoot, the HoloTile automatically adapts to keep the user grounded and can even accommodate multiple individuals separately. You can even see someone using “The Force” to move Smoot as he sits on the HoloTile floor.
This could allow guests to explore different aspects of a Virtual Reality experience or use it on stage for performers. At this time, there are no definite plans for where this new technology may be used, but the possibilities are endless.
What do you think of this new HoloTile Floor? How do you think Disney Parks may be able to use this? Share your thoughts with us and share this video with your fellow Disney pals.
