Star Wars fans really were excited when Disney World announced an exclusive Star Wars hotel. This experience was too costly for most people, and attendance was low. Now, Disney World may be ready to move on after they closed it.
Failed Project
In a shocking announcement, Disney confirmed the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser would take its final voyage September 28-30, 2023. It opened in early 2021 but has not been able to keep rooms occupied due to its high price and very specific audience.
What will Disney do with this empty hotel and immersive experience now? While it will likely be a few years before anything comes to fruition, it is fun to speculate what will take its place. We looked at a few possibilities in this post.
Josh D’Amaro, the President of Disney Parks and Experiences, recently shared something is definitely coming to this now-abandoned area. In true Disney fashion, however, his lips were sealed. Read more about his comments HERE.
New Plans
Disney just filed a permit for construction at the former Galactic Starcruiser site. The permit, which was filed on January 25, simply states “construction” by Sunstate Awning & Graphic Design, Inc.
We are unsure if this is for general upkeep of the area, or if plans are moving forward with retheming/replacing the area. I still stand by my Toy Story retheme idea. If Disney is looking for an immersive experience that has a private entrance to Hollywood Studios like Starcruiser, Toy Story Land is right next door to Galaxy’s Edge.
It could also become a regular hotel with a private entrance to Hollywood Studios, much like Disney’s Grand Californian Resort has a private entrance to California Adventure. The Star Wars theme would still work nicely, and it would likely perform better without the cruise-style itinerary.
