It has been several years since new Frozen content has hit Disney+, and we may have a hint that new content is on its way. Check out the most recent filming and see what this may mean for Disney+ subscribers.
Frozen
Frozen is a cultural phenomenon with quite the following. The first Frozen film premiered in theatres in 2013. Over the years, Frozen 2 was a huge success as well as Frozen shorts that are now available on Disney+.
“Once Upon A Snowman” is still one of my (Donna) family’s favorite shorts streaming now on Disney+. Although it has been several years since we first met Elsa and Anna, Frozen still ranks high in viewership.
For 2023, Frozen was viewed 6.5 billion times and ranked 7th in most viewed movies beating out Avatar’s newest film Avatar: The Way of Water.
New Frozen Films
Previously on Good Morning America, Disney CEO, Bob Iger, shared, “I’ll give you a little surprise, Michael. Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works. I don’t have much to say about those films right now.”
This is HUGE news for Frozen fans. While work is still taking place for Frozen 3, a new Frozen filming project just wrapped up. Disney first hit Broadway in 1994 with Beauty and the Beast.
Over the decades additional Disney classics debuted on stage with wonderful reviews. According to Filmed On Stage, filming recently took place in London at the West End for “Frozen the Musical”.
Several shows were delayed as filming took place to capture up close and wide shots. Last weekend, filming took place during a live show to allow for wide shots and to capture guests as well.
Will it come to Disney+?
We really hope yes, but that is still unknown at this time. We are encouraged by the success of “Hamilton” which was added to Disney+. However, in 2019, a very similar filming schedule was used to capture “Aladdin.”
Apparently, Disney hoped to release this filming in 2020. At that time, there were rumors that “Aladdin” would not return when Broaday reopened. Plans changed and to the delight of theatergoers, “Aladdin” is still a huge success night after night. This may be the possible reason why this film has not been released on Disney+.
This is not the same concern with the release of “Frozen the Musical”. Sadly, the stage went dark on Broadway in the United States for this musical back in 2020. When Broadway reopened after COVID, “Frozen the Musical” did not.
IF, that is a really big IF, this filming does appear on Disney+ it may debut later this fall. If it does this will be a great addition to the Frozen streaming collection.
