There’s no doubt about it: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is Universal’s most immersively themed land. Leaky Cauldron is the perfect opportunity for Harry Potter fans to step into the movie and enjoy a traditional British meal. Here is our review.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the crown jewel of Universal Studios. The two lands, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, are so immersively themed that it takes your breath away.
Diagon Alley is located in Universal Studios Florida while Hogsmeade can be found in Islands of Adventure. The Hogwarts Express connects the two areas via train. We recommend having the park-to-park ticket so you can travel back and forth and experience this cool attraction!
There are so many unique details and hidden gems, from the “secret” Knockturn Alley and even Moaning Myrtle talking in the bathroom! I’ll have a whole post soon about the theming and entertainment in Wizarding World, so stay tuned.
In addition to four attractions, plenty of shopping, and exciting elements to explore in both lands, there are also two full-service dining locations: Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks.
Leaky Cauldron
Leaky Cauldron is located in Diagon Alley. It is to the left almost as soon as you enter. Make sure you take a moment to take in your surroundings when you enter! It is truly mesmorizing.
Leaky Cauldron is a quick-service eatery, meaning you order your food at the counter. A Team Member will then bring your food out to you. Because the restaurant can become very busy, you may have to wait outside until a Team Member allows you to enter and place your order.
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Reservations are not accepted unless you stay onsite and book the breakfast package. Your Royal Carriage Vacations Agent can help with that!
Theming and Atmosphere
One of the first things I noticed after entering Leaky Cauldron was how it looked almost exactly like it did in the Harry Potter films. Universal put a lot of thought into the giant chandeliers, pictures hanging from the stone walls, and even the wanted poster for Sirius Black.
In the movies, Leaky Cauldron is a pub and inn. Be sure to look up – you can see the guest rooms! There is really so much to take in. I recommend taking a walk around after you have ordered food and before it arrives at your table.
Leaky Cauldron is communal seating with long benches in the main dining area.
You can take a look at the video I took below in my Instagram post. It will give you a panoramic view of the entire restaurant!
Breakfast
Leaky Cauldron serves traditional British food. For breakfast, enjoy an entree that includes eggs, sausage links, black pudding, English bacon, baked beans, tomato, mushrooms, and potatoes. For $17.99 this is a great value and can be shared between children or adults who want to save some of their appetite for other goodies.
We really liked this meal other than the black pudding. It was not good to us Americans at all! The potatoes were a highlight – they were seasoned with rosemary and other herbs.
Another unique dish you may want to consider is the pasty which contains egg, leek, and mushroom. It comes with potatoes and fruit.
If a traditional British breakfast is not your thing, a traditional American breakfast features eggs, bacon, sausage links, potatoes, and a croissant. In addition, try the pancake entree or the apple oatmeal flan with yougurt and fruit.
Kids can choose between the traditional British entree, American entree, or pancakes. These are priced at $12.99 vs $17.99 for adult entrees.
Lunch and Dinner
For lunch and dinner, there are more traditional British entrees to enjoy like beef, lamb, and guiness stew; fish and chips; fisherman’s pie; bangers and mash; and Scotch eggs.
We did not try lunch or dinner here. Instead, we opted for more familiar foods at Three Broomsticks. The lunch and dinner food at Leaky Cauldron is more traditionally British, and that may not be your cup of tea (pun intended).
For all meals, there are so many unique drinks to try! We had the cold Butterbeer which tasted like a creamy butterscotch soda. Note that the official Universal menu does not have Butterbeer listed for breakfast, but we did get it. The pumpkin juice tastes like a blend of apple cider and pumpkin pie; it was my favorite!
Other options for lunch and dinner include Tongue Tying Lemon Scotch, Fishy Green Ale, and a variety of alcoholic beverages.
How does Leaky Cauldron compare to Three Broomsticks?
Oftentimes, visitors will ask which Harry Potter restaurant they should eat at. We will have a full review of Three Broomsticks as well, but I wanted to share a few thoughts. In particular, I wanted to focus on theming and food.
For theming, I definitely prefer Leaky Cauldron. Both restaurants have similiarities like the rustic theming and balconies from above. However, Diagon Alley feels more immersive as a whole, and that spills over into Leaky Cauldron. I loved the fun interactive wanted poster.
In terms of food, that is a bit harder to compare as we had breakfast at Leaky Cauldron and dinner at Three Broomsticks. Breakast is basically the same at both restaurants, but lunch/dinner are quite different.
There are a few of the entrees like the fish and chips and various pasties and pies. But, Three Broomsticks serves smoked chicken and spareribs as well, which is more appealing to those who do not like traditional British food.
Final Thoughts
Overall, we loved our breakfast at Leaky Cauldron. It was first for both of us (Susan and Monica), and we were impressed with everything the restaurant had to offer – from the theming to the food.
I would absolutely eat breakfast there again, but I’m not sure I’m adventurous enough for lunch/dinner here! I’d love to answer any of your questions about Wizarding World and help you plan your trip. Find details below about how to contact me!
