If you plan to travel with Disney Cruise Line this summer, you will want to read this. One ship has changed multiple itineraries.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line occasionally has to adjust a ship’s itinerary. Sometimes this is due to weather or circumstances beyond Disney Cruise Line’s control.
Disney Cruise Line occassionally will need to adjust a ship’s itinerary.
For example, Disney made a big itinerary adjustment to the Disney Dream last fall. The cruise was originally scheduled to be a Bermuda cruise and ended up as a Canadian sailing. You can read more about that HERE.
International Maritime Organization Speed Restrictions
Disney Cruise Line has begun to send out notifications to their Guests. These notifications include information as to why their itineraries have been adjusted. The notification reads:
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has designated certain areas in North-West Mediterranean Sea as a Particular Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) and is recommending ships reduce their speeds while traversing the PSSA to reduce the risk of collisions with whales and other cetaceans. The recommended speed restriction applies to the area located along the coastlines of France, Italy, Monaco, and Spain.
While the Disney Dream is sailing in the PSSA, the ship will reduce its speed to comply with the IMO’s recommendation and help protect the local whale population. Due to the ship’s reduced speed, it will be necessary to modify your sailing’s itinerary.
Which Itineraries Have Changed?
Several cruise itineraries have changed. All of the impacted cruises are on the Disney Dream and they include May 18th, June 24th, July 5th, and July 17th.
Four cruise itenaries have been impacted due to the IMO speed restrictions.
The May 18th sailing is the Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise. The itinerary was adjusted further due to the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix along with limited port adventures in Villefranche. DVC and DCL promise that entertainment and enhancements planned for the Member Cruise will not be impacted.
What do you think of these itinerary changes? Are any of your vacation plans impacted by these IMO speed restrictions? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to share this post with a friend.
