If you wish to build your very own lightsaber while you visit Disney World, you are in for a bit of a change in both the price points and the design options! Here are all the details.
Build Your Own Lightsaber
Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World offers Star Wars fans 2 different options for building a lightsaber. The first of these offerings is Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers at the Walt Disney World Resort. You will find this immersive experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It costs $249.99, and advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
However, fans who want a less expensive and simpler option can head to Tatooine Traders at the exit of Star Tours instead. We were so excited when the Build Your Own Lightsaber experience returned. You can read about it HERE.
Changes for Build Your Own Lightsaber
If you have ever built your own lightsaber at Tatooine Traders, the next time you visit, you might notice that things look different! This is because Disney World just rolled out a new line of lightsabers for the experience!
You will still get to select your blade and hilt pieces. However, what you are ultimately building is a fully-retractable lightsaber. This is unlike the previous version, which folded down to one exposed segment of the blade poking above the hilt. They fully expand with sound effects at the push of a button and a flick of the wrist.
There are Cast Members available to help you work through each piece of the process. There are 5 steps.
Once you have decided whether you would like a single or double-ended lightsaber and whether you need deluxe parts, it is time to select your end cap or adapter.
Next, you will select a chassis and one of the colorful blades! Then you get to select your activation switch and your sleeve. Lastly, you must select an emitter.
Once you have finished your build, you will choose a hook to clip them to your belt if you wish. You can select either a Jedi or a Sith clip at the end of your build. These come with Jedi or Sith oaths.
Price Increase
This experience comes at an increased price. Previously, the cost was $29.99 for a standard lightsaber.
These Lightsabers are more expensive than the old versions.
However, now you will pay $34.99 for a Single or $39.99 for a Deluxe Single. A Double is $49.99, and a Deluxe Double is $59.99. AP and other applicable discounts are still available.
We have both types now, and the kids like the new ones better because they retract completely. They also like that they are more portable.
I will also say, the new parts are NOT compatible with the old version. If you are looking for replacement parts, the store no longer has them.
What do you think about the new version of Build Your Own Lightsaber at Tatooine Traders at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Let us know in the comments. And, be sure to pass on the information to your friends who had trips planned so that they know what to expect.

Hi, Susie! If it is one of the newer sabers, it should just slide down into the hilt. It it is one of the older versions, the first segment will not slide down. Do you know when it was purchased?
