Disney World has so much to offer in terms of dining, attractions, and other experiences. One such experience will have a major cutback until further notice. Bummer!
Fort Wilderness
Guests will take in the American frontier with all different types of wildlife including deer, rabbits, ducks and armadillos that will roam the resort. Can you believe Disney’s Fort Wilderness resort takes up 750 acres? You can relax in the great outdoors with only being minutes from Magic Kingdom!
The resort opened on November 19, 1971. People travel from all over just to camp at the Fort Wilderness Campground without ever stepping foot in a park!
There are some major changes coming to this resort that include RV camper rentals and golf carts. You can read about those HERE.
Horseback Riding
Guests 9 years of age and up can ride through an idyllic woodland teeming with deer, ducks, armadillos and rabbits. This trail ride is perfect for beginner and intermediate riders. These 45-minute horseback trail rides are $65 per person, and reservations are highlighly recommended.
Horses will keep a steady walking pace as Guests explore the natural beauty surrounding Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds.
Maggie had an awesome time riding horses, and you can check out her post HERE. If you are looking for other ways to explore The Fort, you may want to consider a Segway tour! Read about my experience doing that in this post.
Cutback
The Disney World website states that horseback riding at Fort Wilderness will not be available as often as usual. Beginning July 13, 2024, horseback riding will be temporarily unavailable Monday through Friday at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, due to construction.

However, rides may be available on Saturdays and Sundays during this time. Check the My Disney Experience mobile app on Friday of each week to see if horseback riding is happening on the following Saturday and Sunday—and if available, reserve a ride.
