Due to extreme weather conditions, a few experiences at Disney World were unavailable for the safety of Guests. We are happy to report they are now available once again!
Burn Ban
Late last month, Disney implemented a burn ban at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Orange County automatically institutes a burn ban when the local drought index meets or exceeds 500. The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning that has not been specifically permitted.
Because of this, the charcoal grills at the cabins and personal charcoal grills could not be used. However, propane grills could be used.
We are happy to report that the burn ban has been lifted as of June 20, 2024. If you have plans to travel to Fort Wilderness this summer, we recommend double checking with Cast Members when you arrive to ensure it has not been implemented again.
Low Water Levels
Extremely low water levels have plagued the Sassagoula River at Disney World. Because of this, the water taxis that run from Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, and Disney Springs have been unavailable since the end of April.
This meant Guests had to use buses to get to the other resorts and Disney Springs. While that’s not the end of the world, the water taxis are very convenient and scenic.
Earlier this week Disney brought the water taxis back out! The water levels are high enough again to safely trasnport Guests along the Sassagoula River.
A Hot Summer
Guests heading to Disney World this summer should be aware that it will be a hot one! So far, we have already seen low water levels and burn bans. You may want to have a few backup options for any weather-related issue you may run into.
The burn ban has been lifted and the water taxis returned.
