BREAKING: Disney World Replaces Genie+ With a New Type of FastPass

BREAKING: Disney World Replaces Genie+ With a New Type of FastPass

If you miss Disney’s previous way of booking rides with the FastPass system that allowed guests to book rides ahead of time, then you don’t want to miss these exciting new changes coming soon!

Planning For Disney Trips

The days before a Walt Disney World vacation are always exciting. Families and friends come together to talk about their favorite rides and experiences. Guests told Disney that they wanted more options for planning before their theme park visit and it seems Disney is listening!

This summer Disney will be changing the Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane entry to offer new planning options.

Starting July 24, Walt Disney World is simplifying how guests book rides. The Disney Genie+ service will be renamed Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, and the individual Lightning Lane will now be called Lightning Lane Single Pass.

How The New System Will Work

With Lightning Lane passes, you can book access for multiple days at once. Starting July 24, the Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections before your visit.

Beginning July 24, guests can purchase up to 3 Lightning Lane selections with the Multi Pass.

Lightning Lane Single Pass will work much like it does today, where you can secure a time to ride one of our most highly demanded attractions, but you’ll now be able to make your purchase and plan in advance.

What Does This Mean to You?

Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels can book Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay, which can be up to 14 days long. All other guests can book up to 3 days in advance.

Lightning Lane passes will combine features from Disney’s current services and the previously offered FastPass+ service. This will let guests plan and remove the hassle of planning during your vacation.

Additionally, there will be a new option to purchase both the Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one transaction.

Thanks for the responses. I really appreciate it. Kenny, will you be doing the how-to’s/plans for subscribers with these? I followed yours to the letter with fastpass and 99.9% of the time always got to ride everything we wanted.

Do we have any idea how much it will cost?

One downside I see, that I wish they’d address, if I understand correctly, is allowing LL multi pass at one park per day. If I only need half a day at one park, I’d like to be able to park hop and use this thing for rides at the second park as well.

Would the LL multi pass will allow you to ride the same ride more than once per day?

Does this mean Seven Dwarfs Minetrain and the Frozen ride will not be in the LL multi pass and will have to be purchased separately?

If anyone has answers I’d sure appreciate it. I hope they get the kinks worked out…

@kennythepirate, I love all things Disney but they need to get it together with the fastpasses. No one wants to get up at 6 30 am on their vacation to book fastpasses and then constantly be on their phone all day! Why can't they just utilize a system like Universal, Busch Gardens, and Seaworld??? It's sooo much easier! We'll, we are planning for a big trip to Epic Universe next. We might pop in a day to MK or Epcot but it depends on how hard they make it to do that. Disney better step it up because Epic Universe is gonna rock their world for a while!

I would say the cost of Multi Pass will continue to be variable. The only real change is the 3 reserved in a single park before starting the day and ability to pre-book single pass. I doubt it will allow multiple turns on the same ride in one day. SDMT will be single pass, not multi pass. Frozen will be Multi Pass. You can book a new Multi Pass at any park after using your first one.

Disney hasn’t released the cost yet. 7DMT will continue to be purchased separately as a single pass.

We are going in December and I hope they have the wrinkles ironed out by then.

It will be interesting to see how this works. The old FastPass system was broken. Most guests seem to want to book the same handful of rides. We were rarely able to book the FastPasses we really wanted under the old FastPass system. It was ok because the FastPasses were free. We certainly would never pay for that old broken system.
