Early in June, we shared that Tortuga Tavern appeared closed. This often-overlooked quick-service dining location was across from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Adventureland.

Operational hours were no longer listed for Tortuga Tavern, and all cash registers were covered. Today, Tortuga Tavern reopened but with an unexpected twist.

This location is now Tortuga Treasures and now serves as the gift shop for Pirates of the Caribbean. However, this is not the only change in Adventureland today.

Previously, guests would exit through the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar which is just a fancy name for a gift shop. Now when guests exit the ride, it is covered in scrim and blocked by construction walls.

This gift shop is closed for refurbishment with many of the merchandise now located at Tortuga Treasures.

The good news is that the attraction remains open amidst this refurbishment. The bad news is that the area is now a construction zone. Today marks the first day of the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar refurbishment and the area has changed quite a bit.

If you remember back to the Destination D23 Fan Event held last September, Imagineer Chris Beatty announced that an all-new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern is coming to the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World!

Disney did not announce where this Tavern may be located, but these changes in Adventureland have us wondering if work may now be underway.
