Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. That’s half the year! Typically, most hurricanes hit during August, September, and October. September is considered peak hurricane season in Florida.

In the past, Disney World has only closed a handful of times due to hurricane activity. But each time a hurricane does come, Disney is always well-prepared.

Late last week, Governor DeSantis declared a state of emergency as the tropical storm began causing heavy rain, damaging winds, and potential flooding.

Over the weekend, that storm has been categorized and name Hurricane Debby. Today, August 4, there is a Tornado Watch until 4:00 pm as strong winds and heavy rain descend upon Disney World.

Disney is beginning to take more precautions.

Disney made the decision to close Typhoon Lagoon today, August 4. After all, who wants to swim in heavy rain and wind?

Other than that, no other precautions are necessary at this point. We will keep you informed if Disney continues preparations by closing or altering more operations. If you are in the area today, please be safe! Bring your ponchos and an extra pair of shoes!
