There is a new Lion King ride coming to Disney Parks. However, the announcement left many fans confused. Disney has since provided clarity.
New Lion King Ride
At the recent D23 event, Disney announced that a new Lion King ride is on the way! Fans of the animated classic will be able to step right into the movie.
The ride looks like a Splash Mountain-style water ride. According to Disney, guests will embark on a journey through the African savanna.
The ride is expected to debut in Disneyland Paris in Disney Adventure World (which is the new name for Walt Disney Studios Park). However, the news left so many fans confused!
What’s the Confusion
The confusion stems from the fact that at D23, the ride was announced as being themed to the 1994 animated version of The Lion King. The storyline will “bring you alongside Simba’s journey from cub to king.”
However, when Disney unveiled the concept art for the ride, fans immediately noticed a discrepancy. The concept art features characters from the 2019 live-action version of The Lion King.
This of course sparked confusion and rumblings among fans. People who love the animated classic want to know whether to get excited for a ride based on it or to brace themselves for the live-action version, which many Lion King fans view as inferior.
Clarification
Disney has quickly stepped in to provide clarification. According to a statement, “The attraction will be based on the 1994 animated movie. The concept art released for D23 is illustrative only as we are in the early stages of the project.”
The New Lion King ride will be based on the animated movie, not the live-action one.
We can think of some other Disney announcements that need clarification. The question “Where is the Monsters Inc. door coaster going?” comes to mind.
