Peter Pan’s Flight reopened today after being closed for a little over one month. During that closure, Disney made a pretty big change. Plus, find out why it will be even harder to ride the attraction upon reopening.
Peter Pan’s Flight Refurbishment
Peter Pan’s Flight is a classic Fantasyland ride that has been in operation since Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. It takes you on a ride through scenes of the movie including London, Never Land, and more.
Peter Pan’s Flight does have some controversial scenes. Mainly, the scene with the Never Land tribe, which many find outdated and offensive, has been on Disney’s radar for several years now.
It’s been rumored that this scene would be removed or changed, and now Disney has finally made that happen.
Scene Updates
The Never Land tribe scene is now updated with some fresh elements. The previous version features Tiger Lily and other members of the tribe sitting around the fire. They looked like caricatures with angry faces and crossed arms.
The new scene still features Tiger Lily and other members of the tribe. However, they are now dancing. The teepees in the back also have new animal symbols like a turtle and a bear.
Disney has long talked about telling its classic stories in a new, updated way that celebrates the world’s diversity. Similar changes have been made at Tom Sawyer’s Island and, of course, Splash Mountain (now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure).
Why it will be hard to ride
Unfortunately, if you there during the first few days of the attraction’s reopening, it will be a bit harder to ride it. That’s because it will utilize a standby queue only.
Peter Pan’s Flight will utilize a standby queue only during the first few days of the ride’s reopening.
It will then move to Lightning Lane Multi Pass on August 19. In the meantime, expect longer than normal wait times. Typically, this ride has a 60-90 minute wait throughout the day. I would expect 2 hours to be the norm.
Do you think this change was necessary or should Disney have left the ride alone? Let us know in the comments below, and share this post with your friends.

I agree with JR. Considering other changes Disney has made to other rides in the name of PC, this change to the American Indian scene on Peter Pan is rather mild. I haven't seen it yet but based on this article it seems fine to me. I was fine with the former scene too.
I am quite disturbed by the demolishing of Tom Sawyer's Island and the Riverboat attraction. Those attractions are not just good elements of Frontierland, but they are America. Cars in California Adventure is amazing and we often wondered why they don't bring that attraction to WDW. I don't understand why they couldn't expand around the MK and utilize some of the unused acreage to build Cars, rather than destroy two MK icons.

Just like everything else, you cannot change history. Try as you might, what happened has happened. The story, a fairy tale, is what it is. What was “normal” then, shouldn’t be a problem now. Like I hear all the time, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I don’t believe for one minute, that Walt Disney was a racist and all he did for everyone, was and should be, accepted today.
