Disney Vacation Club just opened their newest resort, the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness a Disney Vacation Club resort. Check out our honest review of this newest addition to DVC.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness
Feel close to the magic by camping near the magic! Guests will take in the American frontier with all different types of wildlife including deer, rabbits, ducks, and armadillos that will roam the resort. Can you believe that this resort takes up 750 acres? You can relax in the great outdoors only minutes from Magic Kingdom!
Fort Wilderness Campground is commonly known as “The Fort.”
At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, you will find trails, two pools, and entertainment and activities of all kinds! This resort is unique as you won’t find any other resort like it at Disney. The resort opened on November 19, 1971. It consists of both campsites and cabins for guests to enjoy.
New DVC Cabins
The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will eventually (staggered opening of cabin loops) offer 350 cabins that “bring refreshed cabin hideaways.” This DVC (Disney Vacation Club) resort is the 17th Disney Vacation Club Resort and began welcoming Guests on July 1, 2024.
The Fort offers a unique way to experience Walt Disney World Resort. Be sure to check out the complete guide to The Fort HERE.
If you are considering buying points at the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, you should know some important details. Read HERE to find out some of the details we shared earlier.
Outside
Each cabin has a deck with a picnic table along with a charcoal grill. The picnic table with bench-style seating is the perfect place to enjoy those home-cooked/grilled meals.
There are also two chairs for you to enjoy the deck. I love the Mickey cut-out on these chairs.
Caution: If your deck/door is in the sun the door handle to the cabin can get hot!
Also, on the deck you will find a place to brush/clean off your shoes. This is a must in the campground as you can track in a lot of dirt.
There is also an over-the-door light on the porch, so you can enjoy the deck at night. Lights also run under the railing that turn on automatically.
If you are staying at The Fort, a golf cart is a must! You will find the plug to charge your golf cart on the side closest to the driveway (in the same location as before). The driveway offers enough space to park a golf cart and a car.
Kitchen/Dining Room
This is probably my favorite update to the cabins. The kitchen space is much more functional. There is a full stove and oven. Gone are the days of just a cooktop and a convection microwave. Now you can truly make those homemade meals!
This kitchen is stocked with all the items you will need to make a home-cooked meal. As with other one-bedroom DVC villas you will find:
- Dishwasher
- Dishes, glasses, and utensils
- Pots and pans
- Refrigerator
- Stove and oven
- Toaster
- Microwave
- Coffee maker
The coffee maker is a Keurig coffee maker that makes either a cup of coffee or a full pot! The dining room table comfortably seats four. The open living space however makes it feel like nobody is excluded from anything.
Living room
With the open concept, the kitchen and dining area flow right into the living room. The floor-to-ceiling windows bring in lots of natural light and the high ceilings make the space feel big!
The couch pulls down to a Murphy-style bed. The extra bedding can be found inside the coffee table. There is even more extra bedding in the closet of the bedroom.
You will find the television mounted on the wall that abuts the bedroom. I found the placement of the TV to be great for those in the kitchen, however it was not great for those sitting on the couch. The TV does swivel to make viewing a little better.
Bedroom
I love the new bedroom setup. In the old cabins, the bedroom was cramped and dark. The new layout offers a lot of bright natural light and space to move around.
The new layout has the bed positioned, so you can enter the queen bed from either side. Nobody is climbing over anybody in the middle of the night! Disney also added several more outlets. Everyone has a place to charge their electronics.
The bunk beds continue the fun “camp/cabin” feel. These beds even have sleeping bags to use! Those white rolled-up blankets on the bunk beds are sleeping bags. The sleeping bags and bunk beds will be a definite hit for the kids. There is even more storage under the bunk beds.
However, there is one drawback to the bedroom. The bedroom is the only place you will find a phone. It is also where you will find “Hey Disney”. I like these located in the living room like other one-bedroom villas.
There is also another TV in the bedroom. The dresser offers three drawers to store your items. You will find the safe inside the dresser cabinet. The closet offers more shelves for storage along with space to hang items. The luggage can be easily tucked away under the bed!
Hallway
Heading back out into the living space, you will find the hallway that leads to the bathroom. It has been reported that this hallway could look one of two ways. The first and the one shown in the DVC virtual tour is with a vanity. This vanity offers an extra space to get ready.
The second available option is a closet. This closet would contain a broom and dust pan, vacuum, iron, ironing board, and a laundry basket. We were assigned a cabin with an extra vanity. I loved having the extra vanity as it allowed others to continue to get ready if someone was using the bathroom.
There is no indicator as to what cabin or why some of the layouts are a bit different.
Bathroom
The bathroom offers a single vanity. A fun feature of this bathroom is the step stool with the Mickey cut-out! This gives even the littlest of tots an easy way to brush their teeth and wash their hands.
In the updated bathroom you won’t find a bathtub anymore. Unfortunately, this can be hard with little ones that are still in the bath stage. The shower however is bright and offers the same Disney toiletries we love.
The shower has our favorite Disney shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. These are in the updated dispensers that are much easier to use. Nobody needs to pump 15 times to get enough conditioner for their hair.
In cabins with no hall closet, the bathroom closet has a laundry basket, ironing board, iron, vacuum, dustpan, and broom.
Final Thoughts
The updated cabins offer a fresh and rustic modern accommodation. The floor-to-ceiling windows make the cabin so much brighter. With the price/points of the cabins being a great value for the space you get, I expect these cabins to book fast.
The updated look offers a fresh new cabin feel, but keeps the rustic look with a beautiful color combination.
I was skeptical of DVC moving into The Fort. I fell in love with The Fort when Disney decided our hotel for us and I did not want it to change. Also, being a Disney Vacation Club Member I was excited but nervous that they would price most users out of these cabins, but they didn’t!
I love the new refreshed look. It offers a unique Disney experience you won’t get at any other resort. This new affordable and open concept has found its way to the top of my family’s list of favorite places to stay.
