Do you or someone you are traveling with have a food allergy? Disney makes it easy to navigate dining out and evening trick-or-treating with a food allergy. Check out the latest updates that Disney has implemented.
Navigating Disney With Food Allergies
Navigating any food allergy can be challenging and stressful. Disney World is very accommodating to food allergies. On Disney’s website, you will find their allergy statement. It reads:
About our allergy-friendly menu items: Guests may consult with a chef or special diets trained Cast Members before placing an order. We use reasonable efforts in our sourcing, preparation and handling procedures to avoid the introduction of the named allergens into allergy-friendly menu choices.
While we take steps to prevent cross-contact, we do not have separate allergy-friendly kitchens and are unable to guarantee that a menu item is completely free of allergens. Allergy-friendly offerings are reliant on supplier ingredient labels. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the contents of each food item.
Allergen advisory statements (e.g., “may contain”) are not regulated and therefore not taken into consideration when developing allergy-friendly meals. It is ultimately our Gusts’ discretion to make an informed choice based upon their individual dietary needs.
Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party
Guests with food allergies are still able to participate in the trick-or-treating that takes place during Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party. If you have a food allergy you simply ask for a teal trick-or-treat bag and you will receive teal tokens at the candy stops. These teal tokens are exchanged for allergy-friendly options at two locations.
This year the allergy-friendly options are sponsored by Safe+Fair Food Company.
Allergy-friendly options include:
- Yum Earth Gummy Bears
- Yum Earth lollipops
- Smarties
- Enjoy Life Chocolate Candy Bar
- free2b Chocolate Sunflower Butter Sun Cups
- free2b Dark Chocolate Sunflower Butter Cups
- Remy’s Grahams in Cinnamon
- Safe+Fair Granola
- Foam craft kit (4 to choose from)
This year, they have added a non-edible item, a foam craft kit! This is great if the allergy-friendly options don’t work for someone.
You can redeem your tokens at any time during the party, you and can go multiple times to redeem the tokens. Tokens can be redeemed at The Liberty Square Ticket office until midnight and at the Chamber of Commerce until 12:30 am.
Be sure to read our review of trick-or-treating with a food allergy HERE. We also found that this year allergy-friendly candy distribution was more generous than in years past!
Allergy Update at Quick Service Restaurants
On my most recent trip, I noticed Disney has implemented several new changes when ordering allergy-friendly meals. In the past, quick service restaurants used a reference binder for each menu item to see the ingredients list. At certain locations, Cast Members now have tablets to make referencing items’ ingredients easier and quicker to locate.
It seems Disney has implemented new protocols for allergy-friendly items at quick-service locations.
Another change that I noticed was the tray. All items made with allergy-friendly requests came out on a purple tray. This brought awareness to any Cast Member who was handling the item/items that there was a food allergy present. I liked this new clear and easy-to-see way for Cast Members to stay aware and be extra cautious when a food allergy is present.
Along with the purple tray, at certain locations, there was also an Allergy-Friendly Request sticker on the outside of the container. This sticker clearly stated that this food was prepared without specific allergens. The Cast Member would check off the appropriate items that the food was free from.
I am happy to see these new changes in place, and they help ease any worries about ordering food out.
