After warning subscribers for over a year, Disney+ finally prevents password sharing. Find out what this could cost you and how to avoid added fees.

Price Increases

Disney+ debuted in 2019 and has seen many changes over the years. Subscribers delight when new features are added, but typically new specials and added features come with price increases.

Check out the price increases coming in October HERE. Along with this, Disney CEO, Bob Iger, also promised that Disney+ would crack down on password sharing.

Iger first mentioned this in August 2023 stating, “Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreement with additional terms on our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.”

Account Sharing

Subscribers who would like to share their Disney+ account with members outside of their household can pay for a “paid sharing program” this week.

Subscribers can add an “Extra Member” for $6.99 for Disney+ Basic or $9.99 for Disney+ Premium. You can only add one “Extra Member” per account.

The “Extra Member” option is not available as part of the Disney Bundle. It is interesting that the crackdown on password sharing comes before the price increases next month and with the big premiers of “Agatha All Along” and “Inside Out 2.”

Avoid Fees

The Disney+ help center shares, “Disney+ will automatically detect and establish your ‘Household’ based on your subscription activity, linked devices, and internet connection among other factors.”

Subscribers can still watch Disney+ on the go, but will receive prompts that they are “Away From Home.” You will receive a one-time password verification to show that you are adding a location to your “Household.” This will help subscribers avoid unnecessary fees while away from home.
