The Cake Bake Shop is coming to Disney’s Boardwalk before the end of the year. Pricing for menu items is now available, and many are shocked. But, should you really be shocked? I break down why I knew this place would be expensive from the very start.
The Cake Bake Shop
Disney’s Boardwalk will have a new dining location very soon as The Cake Bake Shop is replacing the old ESPN bar. Work has been slow for the last few years, but it appears the restaurant is in the home stretch.
The outside of The Cake Bake Shop is mostly complete, and scrim is down.
The Disney World website describes the restaurant in this way: “Waterside strolls will be extra special with the opening of The Cake Bake Shop, a new table-service restaurant with glistening cocktails and a specially curated menu. Treat your senses to innovative and seasonal cuisine, including elegant favorites and delicious surprises.
Come enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, desserts and cocktails in an exquisite atmosphere filled with magic and wonder while you take in views of Crescent Lake.”
Pricing
While the official menu has not been posted yet, the menu IS posted outside the restaurant for all to see. Entrees for all meal times range from $22 to $46.
The bakery next door has cakes, pastries, and other items. Slices of cake are in the $25 range and slices of pie are $20.
I know what you are thinking: “That is way too expensive – even for Disney!”
Here is why I’m not surprised at the pricing
As an Indiana native currently residing very close to the current Cake Bake Shop locations in Carmel and Broad Ripple, I (Monica) am absolutely not surprised at the pricing. To begin with, the prices are already expensive in Indiana. There will absolutely be a markup for the Disney location.
You will be paying for an experience and the ambiance of a gorgeous restaurant.
The Cake Bake Shop is known to Hoosiers as a special-event restaurant. This is where you have bridal showers, special girls day out, afternoon tea, and private events. The restaurant is stunning, and the ambiance is very much Grand Floridian.
Speaking of the Grand Floridian, since the afternoon tea is no longer available, The Cake Bake Shop is a great alternative. This won’t be your top pick for a casual dinner during your Disney vacation, but instead will be a place you go to celebrate special milestones.

Prices aren’t shocking, what is shocking is how long this thing has been under construction. It’s completely absurd to me that it should take this long to get one dining location completed. Universal will have completed the entire Epic Universe before this actually opens. C’mon Disney get with it and do better! And no, I am not hating on Disney, this is coming from someone who LOVES Disney.

Yes, we thought the prices at the Cake Bake Shop are excessive. That was our family's first (and independent) reaction. We said at those prices we will go to Trattoria al Forno for a nice, sit-down meal. The Boardwalk is our favorite resort and always our first choice. We will stop in the Cake Bake Shop to try something, but I am doubtful if we will eat a meal there. We might, though. It would need to be a very special dining experience at these prices.
BTW, Disney needs to get moving on replacing Big River.
