As Florida prepares for Hurricane Milton, Disney confirms extended closures. See when the parks are anticipated to reopen.
Hurricane Milton
Hurricane Milton turned into a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, October 7, and is gaining intensity as it hits the Gulf Coast of Florida and makes its way to the Atlantic Coast.
The most likely path suggests Milton could make landfall on Wednesday. It would start in the Tampa Bay Area and work its way across the state to the Atlantic coast.
Disney has been making adjustments to its cancellation policy as well as resort and dining availability. You can read more about that in this post. Walt Disney World closed early today, October 9th, as the high winds and rain of Hurricane Milton will soon reach Walt Disney World.
Park Closings
Walt Disney World rarely closes with only closing 9 times in the past for hurricanes. It looks like Hurricane Milton has now claimed the 10th slot for closing Walt Disney World.
“On Thursday, October 10th, our Theme Parks and Disney Springs will remain closed, and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party will be canceled (event tickets will be refunded.”
Guests using partially used multi-day tickets will receive a refund. Disney shares, “For guests with partially used multi-day tickets, Walt Disney World is making accommodations by extending the ticket expiration dates. These tickets will now expire on October 11, 2025.“
For Guests Visiting
The resorts are still open, and they are a great safe place for Guests and Florida residents who are evacuating. Cast Members will have extra activities, and characters will probably be spending extra time at the resorts also.
All Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Springs will be closed on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
There will be very limited food options at these resorts. We suggest getting what you can before the storm arrives, and take advantage of the to-go meals that Disney offers. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in the path of Hurricane Milton.
